The Luberon is famous for a multitude of small villages and towns, strongholds with high and tight buildings to face the winds, with thick walls to protect themselves from the strong summer heat, protected from invaders by ramparts. We recognize the perched villages of medieval origin and the plain villages built from the 16th century. Clinging to the hillsides, around the castle of the old Lords, the church or the water points, surrounded by old walls, they are built according to the same principle: in the center of the village is the main square bringing together shops and services. The Provençal art of living, so authentic in the Luberon, was forged in the heart of the village, on the agora, near the shaded fountain.
